The basic focus of Shelterwood Cider Company is to produce quality, great tasting cider for everyone, with an emphasis on family, friends, and community.

You may be wondering what the definition of “shelterwood” is, and you are not alone. This is actually a forestry term that is used to describe a form of forest management within a mature forest. The practice involves harvesting a portion of selected mature trees within a defined area, leaving many mature trees remaining. These remaining trees will then begin to repopulate and “seed” the cleared ground while providing shelter to the eventual saplings as thy grow. As the years go by more mature trees are harvested, eventually passing the forest onto the younger generation. It was this metaphor that I fell in love with, the act of starting a business to support ones family and community, with the knowledge and understanding that it will one day be passed down to the younger generation to continue with their story.
